Last week, Newcastle United thrashed French champions Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.
Nasser Al-Khelaifi, president of Paris Saint-Germain, has responded to his club’s 4-1 Champions League defeat to Newcastle United.
Last Wednesday night, the French champions stunned St James’ Park with goals from Miguel Almiron, Dan Burn, Sean Longstaff, and Fabian Schar inflicting their biggest group stage defeat since losing 3-0 to Chelsea in September 2004.
Meanwhile, it was the Magpies’ best victory in the league since their return after a 20-year hiatus. Eddie Howe’s team lead Group F after picking up a point against AC Milan at the San Siro.
According to the French daily Le Parisian, when asked about PSG’s loss at the weekend’s Qatar Grand Prix, Al-Khelaifi exclaimed, “What a game? “I’m not sure what you’re talking about.”
“This summer, the club had seen significant positive changes, bigger than anyone had imagined,” he concluded. And it takes time, commitment, patience, and tenacity to lay new foundations. We must avoid overreacting.”
Luis Enrique’s team trounced Rennes 3-1 last Friday, with goals from Vitinha, Achraf Hakimi, and Randal Kolo Muani.
PSG will seek retribution when Newcastle visits the Parc des Princes on Tuesday, November 28. Prior to that, the Ligue 1 heavyweights face AC Milan at home and away, while the Magpies face Borussia Dortmund.
When the two sides meet again, the group qualifying picture will be much clearer.
