Serge Aurier could miss Nottingham Forest’s Premier League match against Luton Town this weekend. Before the international break, the defender limped out of the game against Crystal Palace.
According to The Athletic, the 30-year-old could be out of the City Ground game this weekend. With Argentina’s Gonzalo Montiel suffering an injury this week, it might spell trouble.
Aurier secured a free move with Forest in 2022. He arrived shortly after the summer transfer window closed and is considered a member of Steve Cooper’s squad’s leadership group.
Aurier may miss the weekend game.
This isn’t good news, and it’ll be interesting to watch what Cooper says in his pre-game press conference. Aurier was substituted at halftime of the 0-0 draw with Palace before the break.
This season, the defense has played a vital role. He’s captained the team on a few occasions, with Joe Worrall and Ryan Yates both absent for extended periods.
Aurier, the Forest’s star, has a wealth of expertise. He’s played in the Champions League with Tottenham, PSG, and Villarreal, and he helped Tottenham reach the final in 2019.
Aurier was acclaimed when playing for Tottenham under Jose Mourinho. He referred to him as “special,” and he was a frequent starter for his Spurs.
If Aurier is not available, Forest may face a problem.
Although the club now has options, it would be unfortunate if Aurier and Montiel were both ruled out this weekend. That would almost certainly mean Neco Williams, who hasn’t even been in the squad recently.
Still, as Cooper often says, the Reds will go with the next man up. Williams has just played two good games for Wales, so he should be feeling good heading into the weekend.
Forest, on the other hand, will be crossing her fingers for Aurier. He’s an essential element of the squad, and hopefully he’ll be able to play against Luton on Saturday.
