JUST IN: Buffaloes Coach Prime Makes Big Move For 5-Star QB After Visit

Most people thought that Colorado’s 2027 class was less likely to have 5-star quarterback Kavian Bryant. Recruiting analysts had already predicted that Bryant would be in Texas Tech’s class before he traveled to Boulder this past weekend.

Not so fast, my friend, as the legendary Lee Corso would always say.

Bryant was greatly impressed by Coach Prime and the program after his weekend trip to Colorado, and he stated afterwards that the Buffs are now at the top of his list:

According to the 247 composite, Bryant is presently rated as a consensus 5-star and the 35th best player overall in the 2027 class. Only Elijah Haven of Baton Rouge is a better quarterback than him. The resident of Palestine, Texas, can choose from a wide range of college options.

Bryant will most likely travel to Lubbock if NIL is ultimately an issue. Colorado will not be able to match Texas Tech’s football program, which has made significant investments. Despite not being able to pay what others can, Sanders is a top recruiter and frequently has the Buffaloes in the mix.

Kavian Bryant would be a huge piece for Colorado’s 2027 class

If Deion “Coach Prime” Sanders can convince quarterback phenom Bryant to commit, it would be a program-shifting breakthrough for Colorado’s 2027 recruiting class. The Buffs haven’t landed a headliner yet for that group, and adding a five-star quarterback would provide the kind of foundation around which an entire class could be built.

Colorado has started to gain a little traction in the 2026 cycle, picking up a pledge from 4-star defensive lineman Emanuel Ruffin and 3-star wideout Christian Ward. Those additions helped bump them up in the rankings, but they’re still sitting all the way back at No. 69. With time running short to crack the top 30 in 2026, the reality is clear: to climb, they need not just volume but game-changing talent. That’s why Bryant is such a big deal landing him early would give Sanders and his staff a springboard for 2027, allowing them to build momentum well ahead of the curve.

The uphill climb is partly explained by Sanders’ personal battle this past summer. After undergoing treatment for bladder cancer, he spent months away from the recruiting trail. That left Colorado playing catch-up on the 2026 cycle, where other programs were already deep into relationship-building. Now healthy and back in full swing, Sanders has the opportunity to reset and take aim at the future.

The Buffs’ quarterback room already has a gem in Julian Lewis, the elite passer signed in the 2025 class. Lewis is expected to be the face of the program for at least the next two seasons, if not longer. But the coaching staff knows how crucial it is to plan ahead. Securing another five-star quarterback in 2027 someone like Bryant would ensure continuity from one star signal-caller to the next.

For a program trying to climb back into the national conversation, that kind of succession plan could be the difference between a short burst of relevance and sustained success. With Sanders’ charisma and vision, the Buffs are aiming for the latter, and a commitment from Bryant could mark the beginning of that next leap forward.
