The Baltimore Orioles have known for some time that they would be looking for a new manager after parting ways with former manager Brandon Hyde earlier this season. The Orioles dismissed Hyde in May after a dismal start that no one expected.
“The Baltimore Orioles fired manager Brandon Hyde, hoping that a new leader will spark a turnaround for Major League Baseball’s most disappointing team.” Hyde, who had led the Orioles through the conclusion of their rebuild and helped them reach the playoffs the previous two seasons, oversaw a disappointing start. “The Orioles dropped to 15-29,” ESPN’s Jeff Passan wrote.

The Orioles were expected to have another successful season, but those expectations vanished rapidly at the start of the season. As a result, the Orioles were ranked as one of the worst teams during the first half of the season.
“There is no bigger disappointment through this season’s first half than the Orioles, and it probably isn’t even close,” Alden Gonzalez, an ESPN reporter, wrote.
The Orioles have recently been linked to a well-known face. Former player Ryan Flaherty has surfaced as a potential management prospect.
“Of course, Baltimore fans will remember Flaherty as a beloved part of their team for the first six seasons of his MLB career, rather than as the Cubs’ bench coach. Between 2012 and 2017, he had a.215 batting average, 35 home runs, 128 RBIs, and 131 runs scored in 452 games for the Orioles. Flaherty subsequently spent one season with the Braves in 2018, another with Cleveland in 2019, and then became the bench coach for the San Diego Padres from 2020 to 2023 before moving to Chicago,” SI’s Grant Young reported.
