Breaking: Big Update Regarding Panthers QB Bryce Young Shows So Much Disrespect

Bryce Young’s recovery in the second half of 2024 was spectacular. Many in the media believed he was finished after head coach Dave Canales benched him following a dismal two-game skid to begin the season. The signal-caller demonstrated incredible fortitude in the face of adversity to give himself a fighting chance.

Canales faced widespread criticism for relegating Young to the margins. Some observers feared they had given up on the previous number one pick too quickly. As it turned out, this was the unpleasant awakening he needed to thrive.

Young appeared confident and poised. He rediscovered his love for football. The Heisman Trophy winner made good use of his time out of the spotlight.

His improved consistency helped the Panthers become more competitive and raised hopes for the future.

The Panthers have already announced Young as their starting quarterback for 2025. More growth is expected and required, but the Alabama product now has scheme familiarity for the first time, while Carolina experiences some welcome steadiness across the board.

There is hope, at least. Belief has returned in both Young and his teammates. Fans are also entirely behind the signal-caller, and Canales believes it’s the beginning of something spectacular.

NFL analyst provides cautionary tale around Bryce Young’s improvement

Not everyone shares that viewpoint. Gary Davenport of Bleacher Report acknowledged Bryce Young’s improved production but suggested that it only secured him another season as Carolina’s starting quarterback. In his end-of-season rankings, Davenport placed Young at No. 24.

“Not long ago, [Bryce] Young seemed destined to be labeled one of the biggest draft busts in recent memory. However, after returning from a midseason benching, his performance improved significantly. By season’s end, he had shown enough progress as a passer to at least earn another year leading Carolina’s offense.”

What stood out most was who Davenport ranked ahead of Young. Michael Penix Jr., who started just two games for the Atlanta Falcons, was placed above him—even though Young defeated him in the season finale. Other debatable choices included Drake Maye, Caleb Williams, and Trevor Lawrence, all ranked higher than the former Mater Dei standout.

This ranking could be seen as somewhat disrespectful, though it likely won’t faze Young. His focus remains on refining his skills, sustaining his momentum, and growing as a leader. If he does that, everything else should fall into place.

A strong argument could be made for Young ranking much higher, with some placing him in the top 15 after a series of impressive performances that led to more wins and pushed top teams to the brink. His resurgence is a promising story that could ignite a struggling franchise.

As Young’s supporting cast improves and he gains a deeper understanding of Canales’ system, it’s difficult to imagine him regressing. If he continues on this trajectory, it won’t be long before he climbs the national quarterback rankings across the media.
