JUST IN: Mets Will Land $150M+ Rival, 3-time All-Star, With The ‘Worst Nightmare’

The Philadelphia Phillies are preparing for substantial roster moves this winter, and the biggest name to keep an eye on is definitely Kyle Schwarber, who just had an MVP-caliber season. However, bringing him back might pose a significant risk.

“The Phillies should not sign Schwarber to another multi-year contract. Not signing him would affect the team’s offensive performance, and the executive management must devise a strategy to replace the home run hitter. However, what if they bring him back for several years and he starts to deteriorate? “Either decision carries some risk,” TBOH’s Matt Grazel noted. “This roster need significant modifications. While controversial and dangerous, Dombrowski’s choice not to re-sign Schwarber provides the best opportunity to freshen up the squad, which is critical at this stage.”

If the Phillies do decide to move on, the New York Mets have a legitimate chance to sign Schwarber.

“The Phillies’ biggest nightmare is Schwarber moving for National League East foe New York Mets. Despite having the best record in baseball at one point, the Mets were embarrassed to miss the postseason. Owner Steve Cohen would do everything it takes to bring a World Series trophy back to Queens, and acquiring Schwarber would get them closer, especially if the Mets lose Pete Alonso in free agency. “A lineup featuring Schwarber, Francisco Lindor, and Juan Soto would be extremely dangerous,” Sportsnaut’s Matt Higgins noted.

If the Mets pursue Schwarber, it will come at a high cost for a designated hitter.

“According to Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer, Schwarber is expected to seek a five-year contract for about $30 million per year. That might wind up being in the $150 million area by the time he puts pen to paper. “It’s a lot of money to attribute to any slugger, given he’ll be 33 next season,” TBOH’s Matt Davis said.

The Mets fear losing a power hitter in Pete Alonso, thus adding Schwarber would allow Mark Vientos to go to first base. Schwarber wearing a Mets uniform would be an uncommon sight for Phillies supporters.

This move might considerably improve the Mets’ postseason prospects following a poor season. Nonetheless, each squad will have a backup plan just in case.
