Breaking News: Done Deal!! Rangers Officially Confirms The Signing Of Another Towering Forward Prospect In Blockbuster

The New York Rangers have added yet another towering presence to their ever-growing lineup of big-bodied forwards. The team announced that they’ve signed a 6-foot-7 left winger, to a three-year contract.

Rangers know they need to find home-ice urgency

He was selected by the Rangers in the fifth round (No. 159 overall) of the 2024 NHL Draft. He’s currently serving as captain of the Flint Firebirds in the OHL, where he’s off to an impressive start to the season, leading the team with six goals and 10 points through six games.

The NHL's most perplexing question: What are the New York Rangers?

With his rare combination of size, leadership, and scoring ability, Aspinall represents another intriguing long-term addition to the Rangers’ prospect pool — one that continues to emphasize physicality and upside on the wings.

How will the new-look Rangers line up in 2021-22?

Aspinall has opened the season on a tear, posting a six-game point streak that includes three multi-point performances and two two-goal outings. The hot start underscores the 19-year-old’s growth and confidence as he continues to develop his offensive game.

Last season, Aspinall tallied 17 goals and 47 points in 62 games, ranking fourth on the Flint Firebirds in scoring. His production has steadily climbed since his draft year, when he netted 18 goals during the 2023–24 campaign, showcasing his consistency and knack for finding the back of the net.

Aspinall also made a strong impression at Rangers training camp earlier this fall, catching the eye of fans and coaches alike when he dropped the gloves with Nathan Légaré during New York’s preseason opener against the New Jersey Devils. The spirited showing demonstrated the blend of toughness and skill that makes Aspinall such a compelling prospect for the Rangers’ future.

Aspinall also gained a brief taste of the professional level last spring, appearing in five games with the Hartford Wolf Pack, the Rangers’ AHL affiliate, after signing an amateur tryout agreement. While he didn’t register a point or any penalty minutes during that stint, the experience offered valuable exposure to the pace and physicality of pro hockey — an opportunity that should serve him well as he continues his development within the Rangers organization.

In the preseason opener, Aspinall lined up alongside Matt Rempe, the Rangers’ towering 6-foot-9 forward, forming one of the most physically imposing duos on the ice. Rempe has since cemented his role as a fourth-line regular with New York, skating alongside 6-foot-7 Adam Edström and veteran center Sam Carrick, giving the Rangers one of the biggest and most bruising bottom lines in the league.

That size advantage extends to the blue line as well, where 6-foot-4 defensemen Carson Soucy and Matthew Robertson add even more reach and physicality. With the addition of Aspinall to the pipeline, the Rangers continue to build a roster — and prospect system — defined by strength, grit, and sheer size.

Dylan Roobroeck, a towering 6-foot-7 center who netted 20 goals in the minors last season, is currently anchoring the middle for Hartford. The Rangers’ commitment to size was further evident in the 2025 NHL Draft, when they selected two more massive blueliners — Sean Barnhill (6-foot-6) and Evan Passmore (6-foot-5) — adding even more length and strength to their defensive corps.

Even the organization’s goaltending pipeline follows that theme. Hartford backup Talyn Boyko checks in at 6-foot-7, while Hugo Ollas, currently developing in the ECHL, stands at 6-foot-6.

With his own imposing 6-foot-7 frame, Nathan Aspinall fits seamlessly into New York’s growing lineup of big-bodied prospects. For now, he’ll continue to captain Flint and finish out the season in the OHL, before likely joining Hartford in the spring — a natural next step for one of the Rangers’ most intriguing young power forwards.
