The Boston Red Sox faced several challenges this season — one of which was actually a good problem to have: an overcrowded outfield full of talent. Still, the team understands that trimming some of that depth could open the door to adding star power in areas of greater need.
With Jarren Duran and Wilyer Abreu emerging as the most likely trade candidates, that would leave Roman Anthony and Ceddanne Rafaela projected as the everyday starters. According to Fansided’s Cody Williams, the Red Sox could look to make a splash by filling that remaining outfield spot with a blockbuster signing — Chicago Cubs All-Star.

“Before anyone criticizes the idea of adding another outfielder — and potentially spending around $400 million on Kyle Tucker in free agency — it’s important to consider the full picture,” Williams wrote. “As I mentioned earlier, I expect the Red Sox to be aggressive on the trade market for starting pitching, which likely means one or both of Jarren Duran and Wilyer Abreu will be dealt this offseason. That would open up a spot for Tucker to join the roster and become a key star.”

Tucker was nothing short of elite this past season, slashing .266/.377/.464 with 22 home runs, 25 doubles, four triples, and 73 RBI over 136 games. While he bats left-handed, his swing is tailor-made for Fenway Park, and his defensive skills would make him an outstanding fit in right field.
Of course, this scenario only makes sense if the Red Sox decide to move both Abreu and Duran in a trade package. If either one remains, that player would naturally claim the open outfield spot — forcing Boston to look to another position for their next big bat.

The clock is ticking for the Sox to solidify their offseason strategy. Kyle Tucker is expected to be one of the most sought-after free agents on the market, and if Boston wants a legitimate shot at landing him, they’ll need to act fast.
