When the New York Giants selected Abdul Carter with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, speculation quickly grew that Kayvon Thibodeaux could become a trade candidate. Those rumors quieted down after the team exercised his fifth-year option, but they’ve resurfaced as the trade deadline nears.
According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, Thibodeaux is once again a “name to watch” in New York’s trade talks. Contending teams reportedly have interest in the pass rusher, believing that the 2–6 Giants might look to move a few key players before the deadline.
“Another name to watch on the trade front is Giants EDGE Kayvon Thibodeaux,” Schultz posted on X. “He’s under contract for another year, but some around the league have wondered whether he’s part of New York’s long-term plans and if he could become available for the Giants, sitting at 2-6. Teams are actively exploring the pass-rush trade market, but movement has been slow — in part because there are so many available options.”
Through eight games this season, Thibodeaux has tallied 21 tackles, five tackles for loss, and 2.5 sacks. Still, the fourth-year defender has only logged more than 75 percent of defensive snaps in two games, as Carter continues to carve out a larger role.
The Giants’ decision to pick up Thibodeaux’s fifth-year option keeps him under contract through 2026. While that means he isn’t on an expiring deal, teams still see considerable value in his talent and current contract structure.
Kayvon Thibodeaux headlines Giants’ potential trade assets
Thibodeaux is one of several players who the Giants could potentially trade at the 2025 deadline. Although New York has recently made more noise about being a potential buyer, the team’s recent ailments and results have led many to believe otherwise.
Despite Cam Skattebo’s season-ending injury, some see second-year running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. as a possible trade candidate. Skattebo dominated the backfield before his injury and is anticipated to return without issues in 2026. If Tracy is moved, the Giants can rely on veteran Devin Singletary to fill in.
Wan’Dale Robinson, a slot receiver, has also been the subject of various speculations as his contract expires.
The Giants would love to keep him, but they recently extended Darius Slayton and will soon have to spend big money on Malik Nabers. That leaves little place in the books for Robinson, who would be a dependable short-yardage pass receiver for many contending teams.
