Breaking: NHL Insider Drops Trade Bombshell On NY Rangers Superstar Artemi Panarin

The Anaheim Ducks could surprisingly emerge as a contender in the Artemi Panarin sweepstakes, according to NHL insider Elliotte Friedman. During the latest episode of the 32 Thoughts podcast, Friedman mentioned Anaheim as a potential landing spot should the star winger become available.

Panarin, who will be an unrestricted free agent after this season, has yet to finalize a new deal with the New York Rangers. Friedman noted that while the veteran forward would prefer to remain in New York, there’s growing intrigue about what might unfold if contract negotiations break down.

“I was kind of wondering if a guy like Panarin might make some sense there,” Friedman said, referring to Ducks general manager Pat Verbeek, who’s known for taking “big swings” since assuming the role.

The Ducks, anchored by a promising young core featuring Mason McTavish, Jackson LaCombe, Leo Carlsson, and Troy Terry, might view Panarin as the experienced star who could speed up their transition from rebuilding to competing. Friedman also highlighted Panarin’s past connection with Joel Quenneville, his coach during his breakout rookie campaign in Chicago. Whether that relationship still holds weight is uncertain, but it could become a subplot to watch if Quenneville re-enters the NHL picture.

Panarin-to-Anaheim Talk Remains Purely Speculative

At this stage, the idea is purely theoretical—Friedman wasn’t reporting any direct discussions or mutual interest. Still, the notion of Anaheim chasing a short-term, high-impact scorer like Panarin would mark a bold statement and a clear shift in their competitive direction.

Before anything can happen, though, the Rangers must decide Panarin’s future in New York. Only once that’s resolved could Verbeek consider taking another ambitious swing for Anaheim’s next big move.
