The Philadelphia Phillies boasted one of baseball’s top pitching staffs last season, finishing with the eighth-best team ERA at 3.79. Their starting rotation was even stronger, posting a 3.53 ERA — the second-best mark in the majors. A big part of that success was top star, who’s now one of the most intriguing names on the free-agent market.

An All-Star in 2024, turned in another impressive campaign last year, finishing with a 3.20 ERA and a career-high 151 strikeouts. Despite those numbers, he was left off the All-Star roster. According to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale, the Chicago Cubs are a predicted landing spot for the left-hander this offseason.
The Cubs are expected to be aggressive in addressing their rotation needs. With Shōta Imanaga unexpectedly opting out of his contract and Justin Steele working his way back from elbow surgery, Chicago could use another proven arm. Even if Imanaga returns, adding a consistent starter like Suárez — who owns a 3.59 ERA since becoming a full-time starter in 2022 — would strengthen the staff.
However, it won’t come cheap. Spotrac projects Suárez to command a six-year, $161 million contract in free agency, reflecting just how valuable his production has been.
