Bruce Bochy will be replaced as manager of the Texas Rangers MLB team by Skip Schumaker, the 2023 National League Manager of the Year.

Three days after revealing Bochy’s departure, the Rangers made the announcement on Friday night.

The 45-year-old Schumaker has committed to a four-year deal that will run from 2026 to 2029. He will be the team’s 21st full-time manager.

According to the Rangers’ announcement, he managed the Miami Marlins the two seasons before joining the franchise in November 2024 as Senior Advisor, Baseball Operations. During that time, he gained his 2023 championship.

Schumaker has also been a major league player for 11 years.

The Rangers claim that Schumaker never played against the Texas team during the regular season.

Presley is the daughter of Schumaker and Lindsey, his wife. Brody is the son. During the off-season, they reside in California.

“I am honored and excited for this opportunity to manage the Rangers,” stated Schumaker. “This week’s discussions with Chris Young, Ross Fenstermaker, and others have further increased my interest in this position, even though I gained a solid understanding of the club through my front office work this past season. I’m eager to start working on 2026.”

The Rangers anticipate announcing plans for an introductory press conference in the next several days.

The 70-year-old Bochy, who was hired as the 20th full-time manager in Rangers history, led the team to its first World Series victory in 2023 and amassed a 249-237 (.512) record during his three seasons as manager.

After winning a World Series as manager, Bochy was the first to take over as manager of the Rangers.

Bochy led the Rangers to the 2023 World Series title, the first in the team’s 63-year existence, during his first season as manager of Texas.

His 249 victories with the Rangers rank sixth in the team’s history.

In addition, he led four of the team’s eight postseason series victories, and his 13 postseason victories are second in club history only to Ron Washington’s 18.

Bochy had a three-year deal that ran from 2023 to 2025.
