As players around Major League Baseball weigh their next career moves, the Boston Red Sox are watching several of their minor league players head into free agency. Among them is a right-handed pitcher who has opted to explore opportunities on the open market, according to his latest transaction record.
The Red Sox initially brought him in from the Seattle Mariners following the 2023 season, trading infielder Luis Urías in the deal. During his rookie season with Seattle, he turned in an impressive performance, recording a 2.83 ERA across 23 appearances and showcasing his potential as a reliable bullpen arm.

Unfortunately, his follow-up season didn’t go as planned. A string of injuries throughout 2024 disrupted his rhythm, restricting him to just 22 games split between the majors and Triple-A. He was sharp in Worcester, notching a 2.20 ERA in 14 minor league outings, but his time in Boston told a different story—he yielded 12 earned runs in only eight big-league appearances.
After battling inconsistency at the major league level, the Red Sox designated Isaiah Campbell for assignment and later brought him back on a minor league contract. He went on to appear in six games for the big-league club, allowing six earned runs over 7⅔ innings. His results at Triple-A were steadier though not outstanding, as he ended the season with a 3.90 ERA through 43 games for Worcester.

The team outrighted him to Worcester on October 16, and he officially elected free agency on November 6. Though Boston could still pursue a reunion under a new minor league deal, the pitcher may be ready for a change of scenery after two uneven campaigns with the organization.
Teams in need of bullpen depth may find him intriguing, given the flashes of promise he showed during his rookie campaign in Seattle. Whether he returns to Boston or signs elsewhere, the next club to take a chance on him will be hoping he can rediscover the effectiveness that once made him a rising reliever to watch.
