The Boston Red Sox enter a pivotal offseason after returning to the postseason last year, and one person who will be watching from a distance is St. Louis Cardinals president of baseball operations, Chaim Bloom.
Before taking over in St. Louis, Bloom served as Boston’s chief baseball officer from 2020 to 2023. Although he revitalized the Red Sox farm system, many fans still blame him for dismantling the core of the 2018 World Series roster.

Bloom doesn’t have the warmest reputation in Boston, but the progress the team made in 2025 reflects much of the groundwork he laid. In a conversation with Chris Cotillo of MassLive, Bloom made it clear he holds nothing against the organization and is proud of what the team accomplished.
“It’s great to see so many of them developing into—or continuing to be—the players we always believed they could become,” Bloom said. “Even in just four years there, I built strong relationships and friendships that will last a lifetime. There are people I genuinely care about, and it was really gratifying to see them enjoy some of that success.”

“I’m proud of a lot of what we accomplished in Boston. Watching from a distance as that work starts paying off has been exciting. There are even bigger things ahead for that franchise.”
Many of the prospects who recently reached the majors arrived during Bloom’s tenure. While he struggled to build a consistently competitive big-league roster, his fingerprints might still be all over the next great Red Sox team.
Ultimately, Boston’s future depends on how well the front office navigates this offseason. And even as Bloom shifts his focus to strengthening the Cardinals, it’s a safe bet he’ll still be following what’s happening with his old club.
