Last season, the team featured one of the strongest starting rotations in baseball, but not every major arm is under contract for the year ahead. The pitcher is now on the open market and ranks among the most appealing starting pitchers available. Even with his value, there is a real possibility that the front office will choose not to make a large financial commitment to keep him. Andrew Painter appears close to making his long-awaited debut, and the rest of the rotation remains in solid shape. Taijuan Walker is coming off a bounce-back campaign and could slide into Suárez’s spot if Painter is not prepared for Opening Day.

Ranger Suárez earned an All Star selection in 2024 and performed even better this past season. His consistency and growth mean he will attract considerable attention in free agency, and some analysts, including one from FanSided, have predicted that he will ultimately sign elsewhere. He finished last season with a 3.20 ERA across 26 starts, marking his strongest year since moving into a full time role in the rotation. Since his debut with the club in 2018, he has been a reliable and highly effective contributor.

Despite his impact, the organization may feel that investing heavily in another long term pitching contract is unnecessary given the depth they currently possess. There are also other areas on the roster that demand attention. Outfield help stands out as a priority, and committing significant money to a pitcher at a position that may already be well stocked could limit the team’s flexibility. With Painter close to breaking through, the front office might prefer to redirect resources to positions where reinforcements are more urgent.
Suárez should have little difficulty securing a new home. His recent performance and experience make him an ideal target for many clubs. A division rival such as the New York Mets, who could benefit from a dependable left handed starter, may view him as a strong fit.
