Another part of the Mets’ 2025 bullpen is departing New York.
Left-handed reliever is set to join the Pittsburgh Pirates on a one-year contract worth $7.75 million, per ESPN’s Jorge Castillo.
Soto opened the 2025 season with the Baltimore Orioles before being dealt to the Mets at the trade deadline as New York looked to add depth to its bullpen. In addition to Soto, the Mets also acquired right-handers Ryan Helsley from the St. Louis Cardinals and Tyler Rogers from the San Francisco Giants.
In 25 appearances with the Mets, Soto recorded a 4.50 ERA and a 1.625 WHIP while striking out 26 batters.
The Mets have also lost their longtime closer, Edwin Díaz, who signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers in free agency on Tuesday.

Díaz reportedly agreed to a three-year, $69 million deal with the two-time defending champions.
His exit leaves a significant vacancy at the back end of the Mets’ bullpen. With Díaz gone, Devin Williams is positioned to take over as the team’s primary closer unless New York brings in another top-tier reliever this offseason. The Mets signed Williams to a three-year, $51 million contract last week.
