The Chicago Cubs are optimistic about returning to the MLB postseason in 2025 and are expected to add pieces to the roster as they push to compete for the NL Central crown. If they do make it back to the playoffs, much of that success will hinge on the performance of Dansby Swanson, who is set to begin his fourth year in Chicago.

Now 31, the veteran shortstop has delivered top-tier defense at a premium position while offering reliable offense since inking a seven-year, $177 million deal with the Cubs in December 2022.
During the 2025 season, Swanson hit .244 with a .300 on-base percentage and a .717 OPS, recording 24 home runs and 77 RBIs over 159 games.
As Swanson heads into the offseason, his attention has briefly turned away from the field. The Purpose and Calling Foundation, which he founded alongside his wife Mallory, is dedicated to motivating young people through sports by creating meaningful experiences. These include meeting athletes, hearing messages centered on purpose, and attending games designed to build confidence and a sense of community.

“This morning, the Purpose and Calling Foundation had the honor of donating and wrapping more than 300 presents for the incredible kids at LYDIA Home thanks to the generosity of @malpugh and @dansbyswanson,” Swanson shared in a post on Sunday.
He added that LYDIA Home’s Residential Treatment Program offers a structured, therapeutic setting for foster children dealing with significant behavioral challenges, many of whom have endured trauma, abuse, or neglect. As a result, the holiday season looks far different for these children than it does for most families.
