Breaking: Cubs Blockbuster Trade for All-Star Infielder Confirmed In Massive Offseason Move

The Chicago Cubs made significant progress in the 2025 season, finishing with a solid 92-70 record and returning to the playoffs for the first time since 2020—a milestone that marked a major step forward for the National League Central team.

In the MLB Wild Card round, the Cubs faced the San Diego Padres and came out on top, winning the series 2-1, which was one of the highlights of their season. However, their momentum stalled in the NLDS against the Milwaukee Brewers. The Cubs fell short in a closely contested series, losing 3-2 and missing out on completing a reverse sweep against their division rivals.

Looking ahead, the Cubs are aiming to make significant moves this offseason and have been linked to several top free agents, including star infielder Alex Bregman. Recent reports bring encouraging news about Chicago’s chances of landing him.

In a USA Today article, Gabe Lacques projected the destinations of the top remaining free agents, predicting that three-time All-Star Bregman will sign with the Cubs. Lacques noted, “Even as Matt Shaw showed some viability in his rookie season, there’s still plenty of room for Bregman, whose 128 adjusted OPS would be a massive upgrade over Shaw’s 98. Hoerner’s potential departure would allow room for both on the dirt in 2027. And should Bregman land on the IL a couple times, as he did with the Red Sox, there’s admirable depth to cover for him. Besides, the Cubs could use another dawg.”

With a need for another impactful right-handed bat, Bregman could be an ideal fit in the Cubs’ lineup. Chicago showed interest in him last offseason, and Lacques’ prediction reinforces the idea that the Cubs could be the team to secure him this winter.

That said, the Cubs will face stiff competition. Other teams reportedly pursuing Bregman include the Boston Red Sox, Arizona Diamondbacks, Toronto Blue Jays, and Detroit Tigers. Considering Bregman is coming off his third All-Star season and has hit at least 23 home runs in five separate seasons, it’s no surprise he’s drawing significant interest. The question now is whether the Cubs can win the bidding war and add him to their roster.
