The Chicago Cubs have strengthened their bullpen by agreeing to a one-year deal with right-handed reliever Jacob Webb on Tuesday, with a club option for 2027.
Webb, 32, became a free agent after the Texas Rangers declined to offer him a contract for 2026. In his lone season with Texas, he posted a 5-4 record and a 3.00 ERA across 55 appearances.
Over six major league seasons with Atlanta, the Los Angeles Angels, Baltimore, and Texas, Webb has a 17-14 record with a 2.99 ERA. He also won a World Series with the Braves in 2021.
The Cubs, who returned to the playoffs last season for the first time since 2020, have been actively reshaping their bullpen this offseason. Key departures include Brad Keller and Drew Pomeranz, but Chicago re-signed left-hander Caleb Thielbar to a one-year, $4.5 million deal.
Additionally, the Cubs added lefty Hoby Milner on a one-year contract and signed right-hander Phil Maton to a two-year deal, further bolstering their relief corps.
