Auburn is continuing to reshape its roster through the transfer portal, targeting key positions with proven talent. One area of focus this offseason has been tight end, where the Tigers look to add depth and playmaking ability.

The tight end room, which was a relative weakness last season, is now being stacked with athletes who can contribute in both the passing and running game. With multiple transfers already signed, Auburn is creating competition and versatility at the position.

Experience and production were top priorities for the coaching staff. Auburn sought a player capable of stepping in immediately and providing a reliable target in the red zone while also helping with blocking schemes.

That player is Jake Johnson, the former North Carolina and Texas A&M tight end. Johnson brings four years of collegiate experience and recorded 16 receptions for 144 yards and one touchdown in 2025, with his best season coming in 2023 with Texas A&M when he caught 24 passes for 235 yards and four touchdowns. Listed at 6-foot-6 and 240 pounds, he adds both size and versatility to the Tigers’ tight end room.
With Johnson now on board, Auburn’s tight end room has grown to five players, giving the Tigers multiple options and depth heading into the 2026 season. This signing further strengthens the offense and gives head coach Hugh Freeze a proven, reliable weapon at a key position.
