Five-star defensive back is navigating one of the most competitive recruitments in the country. The elite 2027 prospect sits among the most coveted players in the high school ranks and continues to draw attention from college football’s biggest programs.
This past weekend, Dobson made a visit to Auburn, later sharing behind-the-scenes clips from the trip that sparked plenty of recruiting buzz. In a social media post, he hinted at another stop on the horizon, tagging Tennessee as his next destination.
Dobson is widely regarded as one of the top prospects in the 2027 class. He’s ranked inside the top five nationally regardless of position, checks in as the No. 3 overall recruit in the country, and is considered the top player in North Carolina.

During the first three years of his high school career at Catawba Ridge, Dobson earned All-State honors in South Carolina. He’s set to transfer to Hough High School for his senior season, crossing state lines ahead of a pivotal year.
Unsurprisingly, Dobson holds offers from nearly every major program in the Southeast and beyond. He’s already taken unofficial visits to Georgia, Clemson, South Carolina, Tennessee, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, and several others — with Auburn being the latest stop on his tour.
While on the Plains, Dobson may have let slip a subtle clue about where Auburn stands in his recruitment.

Could Auburn be the favorite?
Dobson clearly enjoyed his time at Auburn, leaving the Tigers encouraged about their position. After the visit, he posted on X, “Amazing weekend can’t wait to get back soon,” signaling that another trip to campus is likely.
That enthusiasm has fueled speculation that Auburn could be emerging as a serious contender — possibly even the leader. In his behind-the-scenes footage from the football facility, Dobson repeatedly referred to Auburn staff members as “his coaches.”
At one point, he said, “I got a chance to meet with my DC — well, not my DC but Auburn’s DC. Great guy, Coach DJ Durkin.”
Slip of the tongue or subtle hint? The comment raised eyebrows, especially when Dobson later referred to DeMarcus Van Dyke as “his” position coach.
For now, everything remains speculation. Dobson is clearly intrigued by Auburn, but the five-star cornerback remains uncommitted. Whether he accidentally tipped his hand or simply misspoke, one thing is clear: the Tigers are firmly in the mix as his recruitment continues to unfold.
