The Philadelphia Phillies have decided to move on from a young outfield prospect after several uneven seasons in the lower levels of the minor leagues. The decision marks the end of a development path that showed early promise but ultimately failed to gain consistent momentum.

The outfielder spent three seasons at the rookie-ball level, progressing through multiple leagues as part of the organization’s international pipeline. While there were flashes of improvement along the way, inconsistency at the plate and in the field prevented him from solidifying his standing within the system.

That player was Jorge Julio, a Venezuelan native who signed with the Phillies during the 2023 international signing period at just 16 years old. Julio began his professional career in the Dominican Summer League, where he struggled initially before showing improvement the following season with stronger plate discipline and increased production.

Julio’s progress stalled after his promotion to the Florida Complex League, where his offensive numbers declined and his ability to draw walks diminished. Defensive issues also resurfaced, contributing to concerns about his overall development trajectory.
Still only 19 years old, the former prospect may draw interest from another organization willing to take a developmental gamble. For the Phillies, however, the combination of limited advancement and uneven performance made it clear the organization was ready to turn the page.
