South Carolina’s ongoing roster overhaul remains in full swing after a difficult 4–8 season, and the Gamecocks continue to search for solutions as they reshape the offense around quarterback LaNorris Sellers. Over the weekend, that effort took another step forward with the addition of a new wide receiver who comes from an unexpected level of college football.
According to On3, South Carolina has signed Holy Cross transfer Charly Mullaly, a move first reported by Pete Nakos. The pickup reflects a projection-based approach by head coach Shane Beamer and his staff as they look ahead to the 2026 season and prioritize development, depth, and long-term upside rather than immediate guarantees.
Mullaly arrives in Columbia after spending three seasons at Holy Cross in the Patriot League. His career with the Crusaders was one of gradual progression, beginning largely on special teams before earning more consistent opportunities at wide receiver. Over 18 career games, he totaled 26 receptions for 333 yards and two touchdowns, steadily increasing his production as his role expanded.

His strongest stretch came during the 2025 season, when he appeared in five games and recorded 17 catches for 189 yards and a touchdown before his campaign was cut short. That followed a breakout year in 2024, when Mullaly posted eight receptions for 136 yards and a score after managing just one catch as a freshman in 2023. Each season showed noticeable growth, which likely appealed to South Carolina’s coaching staff during its evaluation process.
Moving from the FCS Patriot League to the SEC represents a significant jump in competition, but the Gamecocks are clearly betting on Mullaly’s athletic profile and developmental curve. The 6-foot, 195-pound receiver hails from East Fishkill, New York, and brings an impressive high school background. While playing at the Peddie School in New Jersey, he set school records for single-season receiving yards and touchdowns, demonstrating the type of production that once made him a promising prospect.

Mullaly preserved a redshirt during the 2024 season, leaving him with at least two years of eligibility remaining. He becomes the third wide receiver South Carolina has added through the transfer portal this offseason, joining Jayden Gibson from Oklahoma and Nitro Tuggle from Purdue.
With established contributors like Nyck Harbor returning and young receivers such as Mazeo Bennett Jr., Jayden Sellers, and Donovan Murph continuing to develop, Mullaly is expected to compete for playing time rather than step into a defined role. His potential fit appears strongest in the slot, where depth and versatility remain valuable. Ultimately, the addition aligns with South Carolina’s broader plan to surround LaNorris Sellers with as many capable options as possible and allow competition to determine the final shape of the depth chart.
