With the transfer portal now closed to new entrants as of last Friday, programs around the country are beginning to finalize their rosters ahead of spring practices. Commitments are still rolling in as teams look to address remaining needs and add depth before the next phase of the offseason.
At South Carolina, head coach Shane Beamer and the Gamecocks have officially secured a notable addition, landing former Oklahoma wide receiver Jayden Gibson. The towering 6-foot-5 pass catcher arrives in Columbia after flashing significant upside during the 2023 season with the Sooners, before an unfortunate run of injuries slowed his progress.
Gibson missed the entire 2024 season due to a knee injury suffered during the preseason, halting what many believed could have been a breakout year. His recovery extended into the following season as well, as additional health setbacks kept him sidelined at the start of the 2025 campaign. During the year, Oklahoma head coach Brent Venables confirmed that Gibson planned to enter the transfer portal once it opened.

While rumors quickly surfaced about the circumstances surrounding his exit from Norman, Gibson recently addressed the speculation directly on social media, making it clear that his departure was strictly injury related.
“the ONLY reason OU and I parted ways was because of my injuries. anything else being spread is false information from people who don’t know any details, just what they see on there phones,” Gibson wrote in a post on X.

A former four star recruit out of Winter Garden, Florida, Gibson was highly regarded coming out of high school, according to 247Sports. He saw limited action as a true freshman in 2022, but his role expanded the following season. In 2023, Gibson showcased his big play ability, totaling 14 receptions for 375 yards and five touchdowns.

Now healthy and with a fresh start, Gibson gives South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers a sizable and athletic target on the outside. As the Gamecocks aim to rebound from last season’s disappointing 4-8 finish, the addition of Gibson could play a key role in revitalizing the offense.
