Missouri continued to build momentum on the recruiting trail by strengthening its 2026 class with a notable in state addition. The Tigers have placed a clear emphasis on identifying and developing local talent, and that approach paid off again with a commitment that brings both production and familiarity with high level competition. While the latest pledge may not come with national recruiting buzz, his high school résumé speaks loudly and adds another intriguing piece to Missouri’s long term roster construction.
The Tigers have landed a commitment from running back Preston Hatfield, who has announced his decision to join the program. Hatfield stands at 5 foot 9 and 170 pounds and held scholarship offers from Missouri and Missouri Western State. Despite not being ranked by major recruiting services, Hatfield arrives with eye catching production and championship experience. A Lee’s Summit native, he played a central role in leading Lee’s Summit High School to the 2025 Class 6 state championship, where the Tigers edged a 13 and 1 Nixa team by a 41 to 37 margin.

Hatfield delivered one of the most memorable performances of the season in that title game, racking up an astonishing 457 rushing yards and four touchdowns. He also showed versatility by contributing through the air, throwing for 37 yards. Over the course of the season, Hatfield amassed 1,662 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns on 191 carries, while adding 520 passing yards and three touchdowns, highlighting his all around athletic ability.

Missouri has leaned into the Lee’s Summit pipeline this offseason, also adding Karsten Fiene, a three star wide receiver according to 247Sports. Hatfield now joins a crowded and competitive running back room led by returning contributors Ahmad Hardy and Jamal Roberts. The Tigers also bolstered the group through the transfer portal with Xai’Shaun Edwards from Houston Christian and Vaaimalae Fonoti from Montana, while incoming freshman Maxwell Warner adds further depth. Together, the group gives Missouri a deep and versatile stable of backs heading into the future.
