Sad News: K-State Wildcats Officially Lose Top Defensive Weapon to Rival Program

Kansas State football has built a reputation in recent years as one of the most consistent and resilient programs in the Big 12. Under a physical, disciplined approach, the Wildcats have become known for developing running backs who thrive in pressure moments, especially in rivalry games like the Sunflower Showdown. That annual clash with Kansas has often tilted in K State’s favor, helping the Wildcats dominate the series for nearly two decades. Players who wear purple frequently leave Manhattan with a deep understanding of the rivalry’s intensity and the pride that comes with winning it. One Wildcat, who experienced that success firsthand now finds himself on the opposite side of the rivalry with a chance to reshape its recent history.

The Kansas State running back has never suffered a loss in the Sunflower Showdown, but his next opportunity in the rivalry will come wearing a different uniform. He announced his commitment to the Kansas Jayhawks on social media after visiting the program’s campus, signaling a surprising twist in his college football journey. The decision came just two days after his visit and drew attention across the state, especially given his background and ties to Kansas football.

Kansas State's Dylan Edwards Not Settling For Short-Term Success

A native of Derby, Dylan Edwards was once named the Kansas Gatorade Player of the Year and has long been viewed as one of the state’s most dynamic offensive talents. During his visit to Lawrence, he was seen attending Kansas basketball’s win over Baylor at Allen Fieldhouse, a moment that further fueled speculation before his commitment became official. After redshirting during the 2025 season, Edwards will enter the Jayhawks program with two seasons of eligibility remaining.

His time at Kansas State included flashes of high level production. Edwards appeared in four games last season, highlighted by a standout performance against UCF in which he rushed for 166 yards. He also played the following week against Baylor before stepping away from the team early in the year. While his career has included several stops and changes, the highs have been notable wherever he has played.

Across his college career, Edwards has accumulated 1,072 rushing yards and eight touchdowns, combining his time at Kansas State and Colorado. He has also proven to be a versatile weapon in the passing game, recording 449 receiving yards and six receiving touchdowns. Early in his stint with the Wildcats, he made an immediate impact on special teams as well, returning a punt for a touchdown during his first season in Manhattan.

Wildcats star tailback receives great news, intends to enter portal

Edwards’ recruiting story has been just as eventful as his time on the field. Originally committed to Kansas State as a four star prospect, he later flipped to Notre Dame before changing course again and signing with Colorado. He spent one season with the Buffaloes, totaling 620 yards from scrimmage, including 321 rushing yards, before entering the transfer portal and ultimately landing back in Manhattan. Now, with his move to Kansas, Edwards brings experience, production, and rivalry familiarity as the Jayhawks look to end their long losing streak against Kansas State.
