The Philadelphia Phillies have made significant changes to their bullpen this offseason. With Matt Strahm traded and Brad Keller signed, the 2026 bullpen will look very different from last year.
One familiar face is returning, though: the Phillies have re-signed reliever to a major deal, which includes an invitation to spring training, according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.

Trivino wrapped up the 2025 season in Philadelphia after bouncing between teams. Across 47 games with the San Francisco Giants, Los Angeles Dodgers, and Phillies, he posted a 3.97 ERA with 37 strikeouts—but improved significantly in his final 10 games with Philly, posting a 2.00 ERA.
Drafted by the Oakland Athletics in the 11th round of the 2013 MLB Draft, Trivino made his MLB debut in 2018, pitching to a 2.92 ERA in 69 games and forming a formidable bullpen duo with Blake Treinen. He struggled in 2019 with a 5.25 ERA but bounced back during the COVID-shortened 2020 season, recording a 3.86 ERA in 20 appearances.

In 2021, Trivino took on a larger role, appearing in 71 games with a 3.18 ERA and 22 saves. However, 2022 was difficult, as he posted a 6.47 ERA in 39 games before being traded to the Yankees at the deadline. He shined in New York, pitching to a 1.66 ERA in 25 games, but injuries—including Tommy John surgery and shoulder issues—sidelined him for the 2023 and 2024 seasons.
Returning in 2025, Trivino struggled with reduced velocity and a lower ground-ball rate (down from 52.3% in 2022 to 35.6% in 2025, according to Baseball Savant). Now 34, he faces the challenge of regaining his pre-injury form.

Philadelphia’s bullpen features Jhoan Duran as closer, with Jose Alvarado and Brad Keller in setup roles. Orion Kerkering and Tanner Banks are expected to provide additional innings.
Trivino will need to compete in spring training for a roster spot against Jonathan Bowlan, Kyle Backhus, Zach Pop, Tim Mayza, and other minor-league arms. Bowlan, acquired in the Strahm trade, posted a 3.86 ERA with Kansas City in 2025 and could be a frontrunner for a bullpen spot. Meanwhile, Backhus, Pop, and Mayza struggled last season, giving Trivino a good opportunity to earn innings if he performs well.
The signing is a low-risk, high-reward move for the Phillies, who could use depth and stability in their middle relief.
