Breaking: Done deal!! Mets officially secures trade for standout baseball hero and center fielder

For many athletes, the path from college sports to the professional level is a dream often filled with uncertainty, hard work, and moments that test both skill and determination. It’s even more rare for players from historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) to break through into Major League Baseball, where exposure and opportunity can be limited. Yet, every so often, a player emerges whose talent, work ethic, and persistence demand recognition. One such standout is Trey Rutledge, whose journey through collegiate baseball has now culminated in a historic moment: signing with a Major League organization and stepping into the world of professional baseball.

Alabama A&M alumnus Trey Rutledge has officially inked a contract with the New York Mets, marking the start of what promises to be an exciting professional career. According to Alabama A&M Athletics, Rutledge wasted no time beginning this next chapter, already reporting to the Mets’ spring training camp to get acclimated with the team.

Rutledge first made waves in the collegiate baseball world at Miles College, starting in 2024. His impact was immediate, catching the attention of coaches and fans alike. Miles College head baseball coach Milton Barney spoke highly of Rutledge’s dedication and drive, emphasizing what set him apart.

“Well, it’s very difficult to make it to the next level, it’s very few people that make it,” Barney said. “He just did everything that was asked of him and he just worked really hard, brought a lot of energy every day and obviously that translated into major league opportunities.”
