Recently, Kentucky head coach Mark Pope traveled to Philadelphia to evaluate G-League guard Dink Pate. Once considered one of the most promising prospects in the 2023 recruiting class, Pate bypassed college basketball to play professionally with the G-League Ignite program.
After declaring for the 2025 NBA Draft, Pate went undrafted but later signed with the New York Knicks. Since then, he has been playing with the Westchester Knicks in the G-League. However, the young guard has reportedly shown interest in pursuing a college basketball opportunity.
Following his visit to watch Pate, Pope spoke with reporters about how his staff is approaching recruiting amid the evolving rules and opportunities. He emphasized that Kentucky intends to explore every legitimate pathway available under current NCAA guidelines.
According to Pope, the modern recruiting structure now includes potential talent pools from multiple levels of the sport, making the process both exciting and unpredictable.
