ESPN Analytics believes Saturday’s long-standing SEC basketball rivalry at Rupp Arena could tilt in favor of the visiting team. The model suggests the road team may have a slight edge despite the challenging venue, highlighting how competitive the rivalry remains whenever the two conference opponents meet on the court this weekend overall.
That visitor is none other than the defending national champion, Florida Gators men’s basketball, which also secured the 2025–26 SEC regular-season title. Florida has been on a dominant run heading into the postseason, winning 10 straight games and climbing steadily in the rankings, reaching No. 5 in the latest Associated Press poll released Monday.
However, one final regular-season test remains for head coach Todd Golden and his surging squad. The Gators travel to Lexington aiming to extend their streak to 11 victories. Waiting for them is a desperate Kentucky Wildcats men’s basketball team that sits at 19–11 overall and 10–7 in SEC play. Kentucky desperately needs a statement win, and defeating Florida at home would push the Wildcats to the 20-win mark just before the SEC Tournament begins next week.

Despite Kentucky’s urgency, ESPN’s Basketball Power Index gives Florida a strong edge in the matchup. The analytics model assigns the Gators a 62.8 percent chance of victory, projecting them to complete a season sweep. The teams first met on Valentine’s Day in Gainesville, where Florida pulled away late for a 92–83 victory. Saturday’s game therefore offers Kentucky both revenge and a critical opportunity to strengthen its NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament résumé. The Wildcats missed a chance to improve their standing earlier in the week after falling to Texas A&M Aggies men’s basketball on Tuesday night.

One player who could again make a major impact for Florida is junior forward Thomas Haugh. Haugh delivered an impressive performance in the first meeting, finishing with 17 points and eight rebounds. However, the Gators’ durable forward missed the first game of his collegiate career earlier this week when he sat out Florida’s blowout win against Mississippi State Bulldogs men’s basketball due to a foot injury.
Although Haugh wasn’t able to participate in the team’s final home game of the season, Florida still dominated Mississippi State by 34 points without him. Encouragingly for the Gators, Golden shared positive news about Haugh’s condition on Friday. According to the coach, the forward practiced well and is expected to be available for Saturday’s showdown in Lexington unless something unexpected arises.

Florida enters the contest with an impressive 24–6 overall record and a 15–2 mark in SEC play. The Gators already locked up the conference’s regular-season crown earlier this week, but they will look to add another statement victory by damaging Kentucky’s tournament hopes on its home court in front of a national television audience.
Tip-off between Florida and Kentucky is scheduled for 4 p.m. ET on ESPN, with tension high and the stakes enormous inside Rupp Arena:
