Big Blue Watch: Kentucky Narrowing the Field as Freeman, Rancik Decisions Loom

The Wildcats remain deeply engaged with two portal targets: Syracuse forward Donnie Freeman and Colorado standout Sebastian Rancik. There’s growing optimism that one of the two could reach a decision within the next 24 hours.

Kentucky Sports Radio’s Matt Jones shared Wednesday night that he expects either Freeman or Rancik to commit to Kentucky before the end of the day today, suggesting the Wildcats are closing in on an addition to the roster. Barring any unexpected developments, Kentucky is expected to have one of the two in the fold by tomorrow.

At the moment, Freeman appears to be weighing Kentucky against St. John’s, while Rancik’s decision seems to come down to Kentucky and Florida State.

Freeman had a strong sophomore campaign at Syracuse, averaging 16.5 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game. Rancik, meanwhile, put together a solid season at Colorado, posting 12.3 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 2 assists per contest.

Landing both players is considered unlikely, making this more of a waiting game to see which prospect commits first. With Kentucky in need of frontcourt help, the question now becomes which of the two would be the better fit in Lexington next season.
