Auburn’s momentum on the recruiting trail continues to build, and now the Tigers are firmly in the mix for one of the West Coast’s more intriguing quarterback prospects in the 2027 class.

A talented signal-caller out of California, has trimmed his list down to three finalists — and Auburn is right there battling Kansas and Utah for his commitment. Thomas is expected to make his decision on Monday, setting the stage for what could be another statement win for the Tigers over multiple Power Five programs.
Ranked as the No. 42 quarterback nationally by 247Sports, Thomas put together an eye-opening junior season at Western High School in Anaheim. He showcased elite production and poise, throwing for 3,327 yards and 33 touchdowns while limiting mistakes with just seven interceptions. His impact wasn’t limited to the air, either. Thomas proved to be a dangerous dual-threat, rushing for 734 yards and seven more scores on 94 carries, consistently stressing defenses with his athleticism and decision-making.

Auburn’s presence in Thomas’ final group underscores the program’s growing national recruiting footprint. Beating out regional and conference rivals for a quarterback from talent-rich California would further validate the Tigers’ renewed approach on the trail and their ability to go head-to-head with respected programs outside the SEC.
The Tigers already boast a strong foundation in the 2027 class, with five commitments in place. The group is highlighted by Myson Johnson-Cook, the nation’s No. 4 running back, and top-20 defensive lineman Donivan Moore — elite cornerstones who signal Auburn’s intent to build a balanced, high-ceiling roster for the future. Adding a quarterback of Thomas’ caliber would be a major step toward solidifying that class.
While Auburn keeps one eye on the future, the present quarterback room is also taking shape. For the 2026 season, Alex Golesh is set to have South Florida transfer Byrum Brown leading the offense as he enters his final year on the Plains. Golesh has also bolstered depth and competition by bringing in former Oregon State quarterback and ex–four-star recruit Tristan Ti’a, along with another former USF signal-caller in Locklan Hewett.
All signs point to Auburn aggressively stacking talent at the game’s most important position — and a commitment from Chance Thomas would be another clear signal that the Tigers are winning key recruiting battles and positioning themselves for sustained success.
