Although the offseason hasn’t unfolded the way many Kentucky basketball fans envisioned, there is still plenty of optimism surrounding the Wildcats’ 2026-27 roster.
One reason for that excitement is the addition of Ousmane N’Diaye, a highly regarded international prospect from Senegal who could very well claim the starting power forward spot this season.
During a recent fan Q&A, Kentucky head coach Mark Pope shared his enthusiasm for N’Diaye, the 6-foot-11 forward with a reported 7-foot-3 wingspan. Pope believes the young big man has the tools to become something “special” in Lexington.
“The most exciting thing for me is I actually got to go see him (N’Diaye) in Cremona, Italy, where he’s playing right now. And the great news is he’s just a little bit taller than me, and when we did our standing reach comparison, I reached as high as I possibly could, and my fingers barely came to the bottom of the crease in his hand. He’s long. He’s gonna be special here.”
Pope also clarified that N’Diaye’s name is pronounced OOSE-mahn EN-jye.

Another player Pope is looking forward to seeing take the next step is Kam Williams, who returns for his junior season after showing flashes of promise last year. Williams’ sophomore campaign was interrupted by a foot injury, though he was able to return during postseason play.
Now fully healthy, Williams has also added weight in preparation for the physical demands of SEC competition. Pope believes the 6-foot-8 wing is more than ready to step into a starting role.
“Yes,” Pope said when asked if Williams was prepared to become a starter. “Kam was our leading DPA (Defensive Points Allowed) guy last year. He missed 12 games but was still our leading plus/minus guy. His foot is healthy now, and best of all, two days ago, he sent me a text that I got it in the morning. He was so excited that he sent me a picture of the scale. He’s up to 210 pounds.
“Kam Williams. Let’s go!”

Kentucky fans could get an early glimpse of both players this summer if the program is able to finalize plans for a foreign tour.
