The Big Blue Nation has been closely monitoring Mark Pope and his recruiting momentum throughout the offseason. Kentucky fans have ridden the emotional rollercoaster as the Wildcats appeared and disappeared from countless recruiting lists, occasionally landing a major target among a flood of possibilities.
Still, it wasn’t until recently that BBN truly started to worry about Malachi Moreno potentially leaving for the NBA Draft. As his stock climbed into projected first-round territory and NBA teams continued showing interest, anxiety around the fanbase has only intensified over the last several weeks.
Now, with the May 27 withdrawal deadline rapidly approaching, Moreno himself has added even more mystery to the situation through social media. And honestly, it’s hard to tell exactly what message he’s trying to send.
Two emojis — which have already sparked more than 100 replies online — have Kentucky fans scrambling to interpret what he could mean. Without any context, the speculation could truly swing in either direction.

A Decision Could Be Coming Soon
Personally, it feels unlikely that Moreno would jump onto a platform heavily populated by Kentucky supporters simply to tease an exit from Lexington. BBN will support him regardless of his choice, but hinting at a departure in that fashion could understandably frustrate some fans.
Regardless, with the decision deadline now just over a week away, it certainly feels like something is brewing. Considering the cryptic nature of Moreno’s online activity, the wait for clarity may only last a few more days.
At the very latest, Kentucky fans should have their answer within a week. That decision will ultimately shape the rest of the Wildcats’ offseason plans. Will Coach Pope be able to concentrate on adding one final piece to the roster? Or will Kentucky suddenly need to regroup and search for a replacement in the frontcourt?

A Decision Any Day Now
Most recently, Moreno was projected to the Atlanta Hawks with the No. 23 overall pick in a mock draft from Kevin O’Connor and Yahoo! Sports. While mock drafts are far from guarantees, Moreno has consistently generated first-round buzz ever since declaring for the draft process.
Ultimately, the choice may come down to what Moreno values most from the draft experience, including whether he receives a strong enough guarantee to feel comfortable making the leap.
Even now, a return to Kentucky still feels slightly more likely because of the NIL opportunities and developmental upside available to him in Lexington. But Moreno has already made it clear that reaching the NBA remains his ultimate dream.
Now, it’s simply a matter of waiting to see whether he decides to chase that dream immediately or spend one more season at Kentucky.
