Collin Klein and Kansas State secured a major boost to their future defense by landing a commitment from safety.
The Great Bend, Kansas native announced his decision choosing the Wildcats over Wisconsin and Penn State. Keeping an elite in-state prospect home was a significant win for the program as it looks to build momentum under new leadership.
Ohnmacht is considered one of the top defensive prospects in the 2027 class. He holds a four-star rating with a strong grade from recruiting services, ranking as the top player in Kansas, one of the nation’s best safeties, and among the top overall recruits in his class.
This commitment is a big step forward for Klein and Kansas State as they shape the next version of the Wildcats’ defense. Ohnmacht projects as a potential impact player in the secondary, thanks to his instincts, versatility, and proven production.

As a junior, he totaled 57 tackles, five interceptions, two pick-six touchdowns, and two tackles for loss. His sophomore season was also productive, as he recorded 31 tackles, one tackle for loss, and a kickoff return touchdown.
Kansas State is currently navigating an important transition period. Chris Klieman retired after seven seasons leading the program, turning the reins over to Klein, who is tasked with guiding the Wildcats into a new era.
The Wildcats finished the 2025 season with a 6–6 overall record and a 5–4 mark in conference play, placing 10th in the standings. They ended the year ahead of Baylor and Kansas but trailed Cincinnati and Iowa State.

Due to the coaching change, injuries, and roster turnover, Kansas State declined a bowl invitation, marking the first time the program missed postseason play since 2020. Adding a high-level talent like Ohnmacht is an encouraging sign as the Wildcats look to rebound and build for the future.
