BREAKING: Paul Finebaum Sends Strong Warning to Auburn Before Crucial 2026 Campaign

The SEC’s release of additional details for the 2026 football season has already sparked discussion around Auburn’s schedule, particularly as the Tigers prepare for their first year under head coach Alex Golesh. After the conference confirmed kickoff windows for most league matchups on Wednesday night, ESPN’s SEC Now panel broke down the schedules and offered one key takeaway for each SEC program.

For Auburn, analyst Paul Finebaum pointed to one nonconference matchup that he believes could have a major impact on the Tigers’ season trajectory.

“Beat Baylor. That was a game that Hugh Freeze won last year, it didn’t do him any good,” Finebaum said. “But don’t try losing that game with Florida coming to town in two weeks and then going to see Tennessee and Georgia back-to-back on the road.”

Finebaum’s comments highlight the importance of Auburn starting the season with momentum before entering one of the nation’s toughest conference stretches. While Hugh Freeze guided the Tigers to an impressive road victory over Baylor during the 2025 season, Auburn was unable to build on that success once SEC competition began.

Golesh now faces a similar challenge as he looks to establish his program in Year 1. A victory over Baylor would not only provide an early confidence boost but could also help Auburn navigate a demanding opening conference slate.

Why 'This is the Biggest Summer in Auburn Football History,' According to HC Alex Golesh

The Tigers are scheduled to face Florida, Tennessee, Georgia, LSU, and Ole Miss within their first six SEC games of the season. Three of those contests will take place away from Jordan-Hare Stadium, making Auburn’s path even more difficult.

Expectations remain measured heading into the year. According to the latest college football betting odds, Auburn’s regular-season win total is set at 6.5 victories. Reaching seven wins would mark the program’s best regular-season finish since 2019, when the Tigers were led by former head coach Gus Malzahn.

Auburn’s highly anticipated matchup against Baylor is set for Sept. 5 in Atlanta, with kickoff scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET. The result could set the tone for Golesh’s debut season on the Plains.
