BREAKING: MLB Insider Confirms Phillies Are Poised to Land $12 Million Outfielder Before Trade Deadline

The Philadelphia Phillies are expected to be active buyers ahead of the August 3 MLB trade deadline, with several areas of the roster drawing attention as the front office explores potential upgrades.

While pitching remains a priority, the club’s biggest need appears to be in the outfield. More specifically, Philadelphia is searching for a right-handed bat to strengthen the lineup. With Adolis GarcĂa sidelined for the remainder of the season and Derek Hill enjoying a brief hot stretch rather than establishing himself as a long-term answer, the Phillies are widely expected to pursue help before the deadline.

One player emerging as a strong fit is Baltimore Orioles outfielder Taylor Ward. According to MLB insider Robert Murray of Fansided, the veteran outfielder stands out as one of the best trade candidates for Philadelphia.

Taylor Ward Emerges as Strong Phillies Trade Deadline Fit

Murray believes Ward checks many of the boxes the Phillies are looking for as they prepare for the stretch run.

“It’s been reported that the Phillies are in the market for an outfielder and pitching help,” Murray writes. “And one of the best fits for the Phillies, both Tom Verducci and I agreed on The Baseball Insiders, was Baltimore Orioles outfielder Taylor Ward.”

Ward brings the right-handed bat Philadelphia has been seeking. The 32-year-old veteran is earning $12.18 million this season and is set to become a free agent once the year concludes, making him a potentially attainable rental if Baltimore decides to move players before the deadline.

Although Ward may not carry the superstar appeal of names such as Byron Buxton or Mike Trout, he could still represent a valuable addition for a Phillies club focused on improving its lineup without sacrificing too much in return.

Through 87 games this season, Ward has produced 1.5 bWAR while collecting 82 hits, scoring 53 runs, and adding 18 doubles, five home runs, and 23 RBIs.

His plate discipline has also been a positive, drawing 66 walks against 85 strikeouts while posting a .250 batting average and an impressive .378 on-base percentage. His .351 slugging percentage is below his career mark of .428, suggesting there could still be room for improved production over the final months of the season.

Ward’s .728 OPS would rank among the stronger offensive marks on Philadelphia’s roster and would provide a noticeable boost to an outfield group that has struggled to generate consistent offense outside of Brandon Marsh.

While Ward may not be the middle-of-the-order power hitter many fans envision, his steady offensive profile, veteran experience, and ability to get on base make him an intriguing option for Dave Dombrowski as the trade deadline approaches.

Whether Baltimore ultimately chooses to sell remains uncertain, but if the Orioles make Ward available, he appears to be a player the Phillies should seriously consider pursuing.
