The Atlanta Braves, like every team across Major League Baseball, have just one series left before the All-Star break. They head into the weekend set against the St. Louis Cardinals after making yet another round of roster changes, continuing what has been one of the busiest transaction seasons in baseball.
Prior to opening the series in St. Louis, Atlanta parted ways with outfielder as part of a series of roster moves. The Braves have consistently shuffled their roster throughout the season, frequently cycling players between the major league club and Triple-A in an effort to keep the roster fresh.
The club announced on July 9 that it had reinstated outfielder Eli White from the paternity list while designating veteran star for assignment.
Azócar’s stint with the Braves was brief after being recalled, as he appeared in only one game before losing his roster spot. The 29-year-old, who has played parts of five major league seasons, now enters the designated-for-assignment process. If he clears waivers, one likely outcome is that he accepts an outright assignment to Triple-A and remains within the organization.
Atlanta wasn’t finished making moves. On July 10, the Braves announced another transaction ahead of the Cardinals series, reinstating right-handed reliever Tyler Kinley from the paternity list while optioning right-hander Hurston Waldrep to Triple-A Gwinnett.
The latest move continues a familiar pattern for Atlanta, particularly with its pitching staff. Injuries, inconsistent performances, and workload management have forced the Braves to make frequent adjustments, especially among their young pitchers as the club searches for dependable innings during the long regular season.
Despite the constant roster turnover, Atlanta remains in an enviable position. The Braves enter the final series before the All-Star break with a 54-38 record and continue to sit atop the National League East, maintaining a three-game cushion over their closest challenger. While the daily transactions have become routine, Atlanta’s focus remains unchanged: staying healthy, stabilizing the pitching staff, and carrying its division lead into the second half of the season.
