The Class of 2027 standout has seen his recruitment explode in recent months, and his outstanding play at this year’s Nike Peach Jam has only accelerated that momentum. College coaches have flocked to watch the versatile forward in action, and he has continued to reward their attention with impressive performances against elite competition.
The Powder Springs, Georgia, native delivered another statement outing.
Playing in front of more than a dozen college coaching staffs, the 6-foot-7 forward poured in 27 points while adding five rebounds, showcasing the scoring ability, athleticism, and versatility that have made him one of the fastest-rising prospects in the country.
His performance immediately caught the attention of one blue-blood program.
Not long after the game concluded, North Carolina and head coach Michael Malone officially extended Montgomery a scholarship offer, signaling just how highly the Tar Heels now view the emerging prospect.
Montgomery wasted little time sharing the exciting news on social media, where he announced his latest offer to followers and recruiting fans alike.
The offer reflects months of evaluation by North Carolina’s coaching staff. While the Tar Heels had already been monitoring Montgomery’s development, his recent surge and dominant showing at Peach Jam apparently convinced them it was time to officially join the race for his commitment.
And UNC likely won’t be the last.
With Montgomery continuing to impress on one of grassroots basketball’s biggest stages, additional offers could arrive quickly as more powerhouse programs increase their pursuit.
Before receiving North Carolina’s offer, Montgomery had already collected scholarship offers from Alabama, Auburn, Houston, Texas A&M, and Texas Tech, highlighting just how much national interest he has generated.
Several other major programs were also in attendance for Friday’s breakout performance, including Duke, Kentucky, UConn, Arizona, Michigan State, Louisville, LSU, Florida, Providence, Rutgers, and Xavier—all schools that could decide to enter the race in the coming weeks.
Although recruiting services differ slightly in their evaluations, Montgomery is already considered one of the nation’s premier prospects in the 2027 class.

Despite those differences, there appears to be widespread agreement on one point: Montgomery’s stock is still climbing.

For North Carolina, extending the offer represents another example of Michael Malone’s aggressive approach on the recruiting trail.
