The St. Louis Cardinals are currently taking on the Philadelphia Phillies in a three-game series this week.
With the series split at 1-1, Wednesday afternoon’s game will serve as the rubber match between the two teams.
During the Phillies series, the Cardinals quietly made a roster move by releasing a player from their organization.
According to the St. Louis Cardinals’ organizational transactions tracker, the team has released pitcher Jawilme Ramirez:
“Peoria Chiefs released RHP Jawilme Ramírez.”
The move was made on August 10. Ramirez had been pitching at the Single-A level and is from San Juan de la Maguana, Dominican Republic.
In 2026, Ramirez posted a 5.50 ERA across 36 innings while recording 41 strikeouts.
The 24-year-old has spent parts of six seasons in the minor leagues. He previously belonged to the New York Mets organization before being assigned to the St. Louis Cardinals in March 2025.
Ramirez had a much stronger campaign in 2025, posting a 3.02 ERA over 59+ innings.

While Ramirez’s recent release brings an unexpected end to his time with the Cardinals organization, his minor-league career includes several notable accomplishments.
Ramirez first made a name for himself in the New York Mets organization. In 2022, while pitching for the FCL Mets in the Florida Complex League, he was named the league’s Pitcher of the Year. The honor highlighted his strong performance on the mound and established him as a pitcher worth watching within the Mets’ farm system.
His successful 2022 season earned him additional recognition when he was selected as a Florida Complex League Post-Season All-Star. Being named among the league’s top performers further demonstrated the progress Ramirez had made early in his professional career.
Ramirez continued to climb through the Mets’ minor-league system, eventually reaching the Triple-A level in 2024. He appeared in just one inning for the Syracuse Mets, but he made the most of the opportunity by pitching a scoreless frame.
Ramirez later joined the Cardinals organization in March 2025. During that season, he posted a respectable 3.02 ERA over 59+ innings, giving the organization reason to continue developing him.
Although his numbers declined in 2026, Ramirez still produced some memorable moments. While pitching for the High-A Peoria Chiefs, he recorded four strikeouts in a single inning, an unusual feat that showcased his ability to generate swings and misses.
Across his six minor-league seasons, Ramirez finishes with a 3.54 career ERA over 376 innings, along with 330 strikeouts and a 1.245 WHIP.
