The New York Mets wrapped up their weekend series against the Washington Nationals on Sunday at Citi Field, securing a 4-3 victory and completing a three-game sweep.
Despite the team’s struggles throughout the 2026 season, the Mets have shown signs of improvement recently. Along with the series win, the club also announced an injury update involving one of its veteran depth players.
Mets Place Vidal Bruján on Injured List
The Syracuse Mets placed infielder Vidal Bruján on the 7-day injured list on Sunday, according to MLB.com.
Bruján has appeared in nine games for New York this season, with his latest MLB appearance coming on June 15. The 28-year-old has spent parts of six seasons in the majors and has played for several organizations, including the Tampa Bay Rays, Miami Marlins, Chicago Cubs, Baltimore Orioles, and Atlanta Braves.
Over 270 career MLB games, Bruján owns a .197 batting average with 117 hits, five home runs, 49 RBIs, 80 runs scored, and 16 stolen bases.
The versatile infielder enjoyed his most productive season in 2024, when he appeared in a career-high 102 games with the Marlins. While his offensive numbers have been inconsistent, Bruján provides valuable organizational depth because of his ability to play multiple positions.
Mets Finding Momentum Late in Season
The Mets have endured a disappointing 2026 campaign, but the team has started to turn things around in recent weeks.
Following Sunday’s win, New York sits in last place in the National League East with a 56-69 record through 125 games. However, the Mets have gone 7-3 over their last 10 contests, showing improvement after a difficult stretch.
Now, New York will look to keep its momentum going when Manny Machado and the San Diego Padres visit Citi Field for a series beginning Monday night.
