Following an extra-inning defeat against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Wednesday, August 19, the Boston Red Sox have a much-needed day off before beginning a three-game series against the San Francisco Giants.
But while the team gets a brief break from the field, catcher Adley Rutschman is giving Red Sox fans a reason to get excited.
Rutschman is scheduled to make a special appearance at DICK’S House of Sport in Boston on Thursday, August 20, where fans will have an opportunity to meet the newest Red Sox catcher and get an autograph.
Rutschman Announces Boston Meet-and-Greet
According to Red Sox beat writer Chris Cotillo, Rutschman will take part in an autograph signing and meet-and-greet hosted by DICK’S Sporting Goods at its House of Sport location at 760 Boylston St. in Boston.
The event is free and open to the public, but fans will have to move quickly. Only the first 100 people in line will receive wristbands, with distribution beginning at 4 p.m. ET.
The autograph session is scheduled for the evening, giving Red Sox supporters a rare chance to meet one of the biggest names recently added to Boston’s roster.
Fans will receive complimentary player cards to have signed, while outside items will not be accepted. Wristbands are limited to one per person and will be handed out on a first-come, first-served basis.

The appearance comes just 17 days after Boston acquired Rutschman from the Baltimore Orioles, making it an especially early opportunity for the catcher to connect with his new fan base.
Rutschman Finally Delivers a Big Moment at the Plate
Rutschman’s off-day appearance comes shortly after he produced his first major offensive highlight in a Red Sox uniform.
On August 18 against Arizona, the catcher launched his first home run since joining Boston, delivering a solo shot in the third inning that pulled the Red Sox even at 4-4.
He finished the game 2-for-4 with five total bases, one home run and three RBIs.
The performance provided a glimpse of the offensive impact Boston hoped to get when it made the move for Rutschman.
Although his overall numbers since arriving in Boston have been modest, the big night against Arizona could be an important confidence boost. Through his first eight games with the Red Sox, Rutschman had been hitting .185/.333/.333.
The timing of his breakout performance could not be better as Boston prepares for another important stretch of the season.
A New Chapter After Baltimore
Rutschman arrived in the majors as one of baseball’s most highly regarded prospects.
The Orioles selected him No. 1 overall out of Oregon State in the 2019 MLB Draft, and he eventually made his major-league debut on May 21, 2022.
He spent roughly five seasons in Baltimore and established himself as one of the premier catchers in the sport before the blockbuster move to Boston.
Rutschman enters his Red Sox chapter as a three-time All-Star, having earned selections in 2023, 2024 and 2026. He also won an American League Silver Slugger Award in 2023 and was named to the All-MLB First Team that same year.
His departure from Baltimore marked the end of a significant chapter in his career. Following the trade, Rutschman posted a message thanking the Orioles organization and the city of Baltimore for their support.
Now, just over two weeks into his Boston tenure, he is already getting an opportunity to build a relationship with Red Sox Nation.
For Boston fans, Thursday’s appearance offers more than an autograph. It is an early chance to welcome one of the franchise’s newest stars—and perhaps get a firsthand look at what could become a major piece of the Red Sox’s future.
