Nottingham Forest return to action on Saturday when they welcome Tottenham to the East Midlands, with both sides looking to build momentum early in the season.
Forest have taken four points from their opening two league matches, winning one and drawing the other against Liverpool, showing they have the potential to cause problems for their visitors. Tottenham, meanwhile, have endured a difficult start, losing both of their opening league fixtures, with pressure already beginning to build on Roberto De Zerbi.
Spurs invested heavily during the summer transfer window and are expected to challenge for European football, meaning supporters and the club’s hierarchy will be eager to see an improvement sooner rather than later.
Ahead of Saturday’s clash, here is the latest early injury news from both Nottingham Forest and Tottenham.
Nicolo Savona – Out
Savona could be sidelined until October due to a knee problem. Glasner provided an update over a week ago, saying: “We thought he would be further than where he is now. He had a minor setback after his knee reacted more with the load than we wanted. We had to take a step back, so he’s working in the gym again and working on his knee to get back on the grass. I think it will take a couple of weeks.”
Ibrahim Sangare – Doubt
Glasner confirmed last week that Sangare had suffered a minor calf injury in training, saying: “But Ibrahim has picked up a minor calf injury in Wednesday’s training session and will miss tomorrow’s game.”
Forest will be hoping the midfielder has recovered in time to feature against Spurs.
Xavi Simons – Out
Simons is not expected to return until some point in the new year after suffering an ACL rupture last season.
Wilson Odobert – Out
Odobert is also facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines after rupturing his ACL. He is currently expected to return between late November and early December.
James Maddison – Doubt
Maddison could return to contention this weekend as he continues to recover from a shoulder issue. De Zerbi previously said: “James has not a big problem, but pain in the left shoulder. He’s working, but I don’t know if he’s available for tomorrow. I think with James, we have to find the right plan. We have to work consistently for three, four weeks, and then he’s a different player.”
Savinho – Doubt
Savinho is another Tottenham player facing a race to be fit after picking up a minor muscular issue following his arrival and debut for the club.
De Zerbi explained: “Savio was another tough player who didn’t play. After the press conference [on Friday], the medical staff came to me to inform [me that] Savio didn’t feel good, a small muscular problem… Maybe Mon or Tues he can start with us, but the medical staff didn’t want to take any risk with him, especially because he didn’t work or do training in the last 15 days with Man City.”
Dejan Kulusevski – Out
It remains unclear exactly when Kulusevski will return to action, although the attacker has made positive progress after more than a year out and is now back in full team training.
In a recent social media post, Kulusevski wrote: “After 477 days, I came back to full team training. Everything is impossible until [it] is not. Want to see a miracle.”
