David Moyes remains in need of reinforcements despite the transfer window closing, with failed attempts to land Folarin Balogun and Joshua Zirkzee leaving the Toffees short of cover in the centre-forward position.
Barry has made a superb start to life at Everton, scoring four goals in his first three appearances across all competitions and providing the club with an encouraging attacking outlet.
However, relying on the young forward to shoulder the entire burden of leading the line throughout the season would be a significant risk.
Everton allowed Beto to leave for Fiorentina before securing a replacement, losing a striker who contributed 10 goals in all competitions last season. The club had hoped to replace him with Balogun, with a proposed £40 million move from Monaco progressing as far as a medical before the deal collapsed.
Although revised terms were eventually agreed, Balogun ultimately decided against making the switch to Goodison Park.
Manchester United also rejected Everton’s late attempt to sign Joshua Zirkzee on loan, leaving Moyes without the additional forward he had targeted.
The lack of depth could become a major issue during matches. If Everton require a late goal, Moyes has limited options to change his attacking approach or introduce another natural striker alongside Barry.
Brennan Johnson can provide an alternative through the middle, but moving him into a central role would reduce the manager’s choices in wide areas.

Free agents could provide a short-term solution, with experienced forwards still available. Anthony Martial has reportedly been offered to the club, while several other proven names could also be considered.

The former England international would bring a wealth of experience, having won the Premier League and FA Cup with Leicester City while also claiming the Premier League Golden Boot in 2020.
Vardy’s understanding of English football could make him an attractive option for Moyes, particularly given Everton’s need for immediate support rather than a long-term project.
His age would mean his workload would need to be managed carefully, but he could offer something Everton currently lack: a reliable alternative capable of stepping in when Barry needs support.
