The Atlanta Braves face several major decisions this offseason as they continue shaping the future of the franchise. With multiple key players potentially reaching free agency, the organization will have to determine which pieces remain part of its long-term plans and where upgrades are needed.
One of the biggest questions surrounding Atlanta is what to do with outfielder Jurickson Profar, whose tenure with the team has been complicated by two separate suspensions. Sports Talk ATL’s Chase Irle believes the Braves should move on from the veteran this winter.
“Left field is another area where the Braves need to improve this offseason. It has been a weakness in Atlanta for several years, and they simply cannot go into another season counting on Jurickson Profar. The Braves should make a statement by moving on from him this winter,” Irle wrote.
Profar’s struggles have created a major hole in left field during his two seasons with Atlanta. Although he has shown the ability to provide offensive value, his inconsistency has forced the Braves to keep searching for solutions in the outfield. That need played a role in the team’s decision to acquire Lane Thomas before the trade deadline.
Thomas was brought in from Kansas City along with minor league left-hander Bailey Falter in exchange for two minor league pitchers. The 30-year-old outfielder was hitting .232/.326/.393 across 97 games with the Royals and had primarily played center field before shifting to left field after joining Atlanta.
Moving forward, the Braves are expected to explore options for a more reliable power bat in left field, preferably one who hits from the right side. Irle believes Atlanta should pursue Randy Arozarena as a potential solution.
“Arozarena is having an outstanding season with the Mariners and has already delivered several memorable postseason performances throughout his career. He would be an ideal fit in Atlanta,” Irle wrote.
Adding Arozarena would give the Braves another proven offensive weapon. The former ALCS MVP has consistently shown the ability to produce in high-pressure moments and brings valuable postseason experience, including a World Series appearance. His combination of power, experience, and big-game ability could provide Atlanta’s lineup with another dangerous presence.
Arozarena has earned significant money throughout his career, meaning the Braves would likely need to make a substantial financial commitment to land him. However, the potential reward could outweigh the cost, as Atlanta would be adding an established outfielder capable of strengthening the lineup and helping the team remain a contender.
