Everton are reportedly weighing up a move for former Argentina international Mauro Icardi as David Moyes looks for a solution to the club’s growing problems in the striker department.
The Toffees were left in a difficult position after a chaotic transfer deadline day saw Beto sold to Fiorentina without a replacement arriving at Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Everton had been hoping to secure the signing of Monaco forward Folarin Balogun, but the United States international pulled out of the proposed move at the last minute. Their attempts to strengthen the attack did not end there, with late approaches also made for Manchester United’s Joshua Zirkzee, Aston Villa’s Tammy Abraham and West Ham United’s Taty Castellanos.
However, none of those moves came to fruition, leaving Thierno Barry as Everton’s only recognised senior centre-forward.
The failure to address the situation has understandably sparked anger among supporters, with many directing their frustration towards the club’s hierarchy.
Moyes has since admitted that Everton are exploring alternative options and confirmed that the club are “looking at the free agent market”.
That search has now reportedly brought Icardi into the conversation, with the experienced striker becoming available after leaving Galatasaray when his contract expired at the end of last season.
ESPN journalist Luiz Carlos Largo has claimed that the 33-year-old is being considered as a potential option for Everton.
“MAURO ICARDI COULD HEAD TO ENGLAND!” he posted on X.
“Everton is considering Mauro Icardi as a possible option to bolster the attack after the Balogun deal falls through.
“Free on the market, the Argentine striker is emerging as one of the options. It would be Icardi’s first stint in the Premier League.”

Icardi departed Galatasaray following a successful three-year spell in Turkey, during which he registered an impressive 77 goals and 25 assists in 134 appearances.
The Argentine’s record in front of goal throughout his career could make him an attractive proposition for Everton, particularly given his previous success with Paris Saint-Germain, Inter Milan and Sampdoria.
Sources close to Everton have suggested to TEAMtalk that supporters should not get too excited about the Icardi rumours at this stage. However, a potential move has not been completely ruled out.
With Everton desperately short of options in attack and Moyes openly acknowledging the club’s interest in the free-agent market, Icardi could be a name worth monitoring in the coming days as the Toffees search for an answer to their striker shortage.
