BREAKING: Philadelphia 76ers Officially Part Ways With Head Coach Nick Nurse With Replacement Confirmed

In a major shakeup just days after their early playoff exit, the Philadelphia 76ers have officially announced that they have parted ways with head coach Nick Nurse. The decision comes after just one season at the helm for Nurse, who was brought in with high expectations following a successful tenure with the Toronto Raptors.

The Sixers front office released a statement this morning confirming the move, citing the need for “a fresh direction and renewed leadership” as the team looks to capitalize on the prime years of MVP center Joel Embiid and young star Tyrese Maxey.

“We want to thank Nick for his commitment and professionalism throughout the season,” said Sixers President of Basketball Operations Daryl Morey. “This was a difficult decision, but ultimately, we believe it’s in the best interest of our organization as we move forward with a new vision.”

Under Nurse, the Sixers finished the regular season with a 47-35 record, earning the sixth seed in the Eastern Conference. However, a first-round playoff loss to the upstart Indiana Pacers raised serious concerns about the team’s trajectory. Despite strong individual seasons from Embiid and Maxey, the Sixers struggled with consistency, injuries, and chemistry throughout the year.

In a swift transition, the team has also confirmed Nurse’s replacement: former Milwaukee Bucks head coach Mike Budenholzer. A championship-winning coach with a reputation for strong defensive schemes and player development, Budenholzer brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record to Philadelphia.

“Mike is a tremendous basketball mind with a winning pedigree,” said Morey. “We’re confident that his leadership will help maximize the talent on this roster and bring us closer to our ultimate goal—a championship.”

Ex-Milwaukee Bucks Coach Mike Budenholzer Lands New Job With Suns

Budenholzer, who spent last season away from coaching after parting ways with the Bucks in 2023, expressed excitement about the new opportunity.

“This is an incredible organization with passionate fans and elite talent,” Budenholzer said in a team-issued statement. “I’m honored to join the Sixers and look forward to building something special here.”

With Budenholzer now at the helm, all eyes turn to the offseason as Philadelphia faces several big decisions, including potential roster moves and extension talks with key players. After years of near-misses, the pressure is on to finally break through in the Eastern Conference—and the Sixers are betting on a new voice to lead the way.
