Devastating News: Philadelphia 76ers Loses Another Special Star For The Season

Philadelphia 76ers star guard will miss the remainder of the 2024 season after suffering a setback with a sprained right finger, the team announced. The injury, which flared up as top star was ramping up for a late-season return, has caused additional swelling and discomfort. A recent MRI confirmed the reinjury, cutting short what was shaping up to be a career-defining campaign for the 24-year-old.

The Sixers also revealed that he is expected to make a full recovery. However, the team’s playoff hopes are long gone, and this latest blow only adds to the avalanche of adversity Philadelphia has faced in recent weeks. Maxey, who hasn’t played since a March 3 loss to Portland, had also been managing a nagging back issue. His absence joins that of fellow stars Joel Embiid and Paul George, who were also recently ruled out for the rest of the season.

For Maxey, the timing is cruel. He was in the midst of a breakout year, averaging a career-high 26.3 points, 6.1 assists, and 3.3 rebounds across 52 games—all starts. His stellar performance earned him his first All-Star nod and the 2023-24 NBA Most Improved Player award. With his electric scoring ability and relentless energy, Maxey had emerged as a cornerstone of Philly’s future.

Why Tyrese Maxey Isn’t Getting A Contract Extension — By Design

Meanwhile, the Sixers’ season has unraveled at breakneck speed. After a promising start, the team has dropped 12 straight games and lost 27 of their last 30, plummeting to a 23-56 record. Eliminated from postseason contention, all eyes in Philly now turn to the offseason—and how the franchise will regroup around Maxey, Embiid, and a roster that will undoubtedly need retooling after a nightmare stretch.
