The Boston Celtics enter the 2025 NBA Playoffs with their sights set on going back-to-back as champions. After a dominant 16-3 run last postseason that secured their record 18th NBA title, they’re once again among the favorites. But the road through the Eastern Conference won’t be easy.
One of the biggest obstacles? The Cleveland Cavaliers. They finished the regular season with a league-best 64-18 record—edging out Boston in the standings—and split their four-game series with the Celtics 2-2. The challenge is real.
Still, former NBA star and Celtics alum Blake Griffin remains confident in Boston’s chances, backing his former squad to rise to the occasion once again.
On Fitz & Whit, Blake Griffin didn’t hesitate when asked who he sees coming out of the East. His confidence in the Celtics was clear.
“Honestly, man, East for me is easy. I think it’s Boston. I think Cleveland has had a great year, but Boston is like, they’re unbelievable,” Griffin said.
A six-time All-Star and five-time All-NBA selection, Griffin was one of the league’s biggest stars during his prime. While his role was more limited during his time with the Celtics—mostly serving as a veteran presence and emergency
The Cavaliers are a legitimate threat, but Boston holds a clear advantage when it comes to playoff experience. Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown have already appeared in five Eastern Conference Finals and two NBA Finals together—a battle-tested duo with championship pedigree.
Cleveland, on the other hand, is still building its postseason résumé. Since LeBron James’ departure in 2018, the Cavs have reached the playoffs just twice prior to this season, with their deepest run ending in the Eastern Conference Semifinals.
As for Blake Griffin, during his time with the Celtics, he contributed in a limited but valuable role—starting 16 of the 41 games he played, and averaging 4.1 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 1.5 assists.
backup for Al Horford—he clearly came away impressed with the team’s culture and potential.
