SAD NEWS: Rob Thomson Confirms Key Injury Setback On Phillies Top Experienced All-Star

The struggling outfielder has been placed on the 10-day injured list by the Philadelphia Phillies due to a strained right hamstring.

The move was made retroactive to Thursday. It came after he experienced discomfort behind his right knee that extended into his hamstring while trying to field a sharply hit ball that took an awkward hop.

He has gone 0-for-31 in his recent at-bats.

“He wasn’t getting worse, but he also wasn’t getting better, and he can’t run at full speed,” manager Rob Thomson said. “This was the furthest back we could retroactively apply the IL, so we felt this was the right time.”

Thomson described Brandon Marsh injury as very minor and said he’s hopeful Marsh will recover quickly. Marsh will accompany the team on their upcoming road trip and continue to participate in batting practice and drills. He’ll begin a minor league rehab stint once he’s running at full speed.

Marsh is currently batting .095 with one home run and five RBIs over 17 games.

In a corresponding move, the Phillies recalled outfielder Cal Stevenson from Triple-A Lehigh Valley. Stevenson was batting .192 with five RBIs in 16 games for the IronPigs this season and owns a career .172 average across 47 MLB games with Oakland, San Francisco, and Philadelphia.

Center fielder Johan Rojas is expected to see an uptick in playing time. He’s hitting .345 with a .406 on-base percentage and three stolen bases in limited action.

“He’s playing really well,” Thomson said. “As long as he keeps that up, I think we’ll keep putting him out there.”
